The Kitchen

Woohoo! The kitchen is finished. It's actually been finished for a while, but I'm lazy about blogging :)

Since my last kitchen update post, we've grouted and switched out the light fixture above the sink. And Leo has some new pop-of-yellow dog bowls. Very big update, you know.

I love this fixture- it's so shiny and nautical/industrial. Definitely an upgrade from it's predecessor.

I switched out the art and the dog bowls. I wasn't sure if I'd like the green curtains with the new wall color, but I think they look good.

Here's the other side of the kitchen. I've been in a color pop sort of kick for a while, and am trying to infuse some into this room.

My grass was actually still alive when I shot this photo. Whoops.

My view while washing dishes. Except not anymore (the bushes are all gone- more on that project later).

The flour and sugar canisters got new labels, too. I was getting sick of the chalkboard ones.

There you have it. Out with the dark and cozy, and in with the airy and fresh.

  1. Love it! Where did you get your under cabinet paper towel rack? I've been looking for one, but haven't seen one that I liked.

    2. I have three of those Allen + Roth lights in my kitchen that I scored for $35 each. People comment on them all the time. I also have gray subway tiles (In chevron on the back wall) Apparently we think alike :)

I am in LOVE with your kitchen!! It is so soothing; that grey is perfect. Ours is still a harvest gold/avodaco throwback to the 70's. :) This one has given me some great ideas!

    1. Thanks! The tile is a special order from Home Depot. It's Daltile Rittenhouse subway tile in Desert Gray. We ordered ours with a gloss finish, but it comes in a matte finish as well. Hope this helps!

    1. Hello! Unfortunately it was a custom color match from a Valspar paint (I had Home Depot mix mine), and I don't have the exact name anymore :( Bummer! I just took a photo of the top of my paint can with all of the color into, and I can send it to you if you want. Hope this helps!

Hi there! What size spacer did you use for the subway tile grout? And did you use a bright white grout?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hello! The tile spacers were 1/8th inch. (Since the subway tile edges are naturally a bit beveled, the grout line looks a little bit larger than this). And yes, we did use bright white grout.

  9. I love your kitchen!! We are doing a gray subway backsplash and the desert gray is one that I had picked out at the tile store! Could you tell me what color your walls are - I want to see if they are a similar color to ours just to make sure! Grays can be so hard!!!

    1. Thank you! We love the gray tile, and I'm sure it'll look great in your kitchen, too! Our walls are actually a light blue. I was going for a grayish blue, but it's more on the blue end of the spectrum (we still like it). Unfortunately it was a custom color match from a Valspar paint (I had Home Depot mix mine), and I don't have the exact name anymore :( Bummer! I have a photo of the top of my paint can with all of the color into, and I can send it to you if you want. Hope this helps!

    1. Thank you! The counter tops are probably about as cheap as you can get- They're the original 1990 off white laminate :) Since they weren't terrible, we kept them.

  18. Beautiful kitchen! We just might change our white subway choice to gray because of your beautiful design. :-) Do you have the name of your cabinet color? Thanks!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank you! The cabinet color is actually really easy- it's a plain old, pure white paint (we used Behr brand). Basically, it's the paint that you pick up in the aisles with no mix ins at all. So no real "color" name, if that makes sense.
